Overview
The Nepalese Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (NAOMS) is the national professional body representing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) practising in Nepal.
Established to unite specialists working at the intersection of dentistry, medicine, and surgery, NAOMS exists to strengthen the profession from within — and, through it, to improve the standard of oral, facial, head and neck care available to the people of Nepal.
What Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Covers
OMFS is one of the recognised specialties of dentistry and an established surgical discipline in its own right, addressing conditions and injuries of the face, jaws, mouth, and the hard and soft tissues of the head and neck.
Nepal's OMF surgeons manage facial trauma, oral and craniomaxillofacial pathology, head and neck tumours, TMJ and salivary gland disorders, orthognathic and craniofacial surgery, facial reconstruction and cosmetic procedures, obstructive sleep apnoea, dental implantology, and the safe management of medically complex patients — a scope that makes the specialty as demanding as it is essential.
Our Mission
NAOMS is committed to safeguarding the professional rights of its members and to raising the standard of ethical, evidence-based practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery — as a direct contribution to strengthening Nepal's broader health system.
What We Work Toward
- Upholding the professional standing, values, and independence of every NAOMS member.
- Running academic and training activities that continually sharpen the clinical skills of OMF surgeons across the country.
- Raising public awareness of oral, facial, and head-and-neck health, and supporting initiatives that improve community health outcomes.
- Building closer professional and scientific ties among surgeons, and a stronger relationship between the profession and the public it serves.
- Advancing research through the Association's own scientific journal, publications, symposia, seminars, and conferences.
- Supporting continuous professional development through accredited national and international training programmes.
- Helping shape OMFS education and training in Nepal to international standards.
- Partnering with the Government of Nepal wherever the Association can help expand access to safe, ethical surgical and dental care.
- Promoting public understanding of health, hygiene, and preventive care in the Association's areas of expertise.
Governance
NAOMS is led by an elected Executive Committee comprising a President, Vice Presidents, General Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Members, supported by an Immediate Past President for institutional continuity. The Committee is elected periodically by the general membership and is entrusted with setting the Association's academic, advocacy, and outreach priorities for its term.
Our Community
NAOMS membership spans practising OMF surgeons, academicians, and postgraduate trainees across Nepal. The Association also publishes the Nepal Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (NJOMS), runs public health-awareness campaigns such as Oral & Maxillofacial Health and Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and organises national and international scientific events — including, in 2027, its most ambitious undertaking yet as host of the 7th ACOMS PG Trainee Congress.
NAOMS remains committed to one simple purpose: better-trained surgeons, delivering better care, for every Nepali who needs it.
